Meet Heather
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the moments in life when things shift.
I notice when something is changing. I notice when support is needed. I believe that how we move through beginnings and endings matters.
Over time, that orientation has taken shape in different ways.
I trained and worked as a community psychologist within the health and human service systems. My work focused on increasing access, protecting patient rights, and creating spaces that were more inclusive and responsive. I learned how care is shaped by systems, power, and policy.
Alongside that work, I have always found myself drawn to the thresholds themselves. Birth. Postpartum. Serious illness. Death. The moments when theory becomes lived experience.
Becoming a certified doula was a convergence in my career path. It brought together my commitment to dignity, my systems lens, and my belief that ordinary life is sacred.
As a queer practitioner, I understand personally how much safety and belonging matter in care spaces. Chosen family, autonomy, and affirmation are not abstract values for me. They shape how I show up and how I build trust.
I am also a writer and a parent of three adult children. My own life has taught me that beauty is not a luxury. It lives in art and nature, but also in relationships and community. It steadies us when the ground shifts.
Being a doula is my vocation that has been forming for years. I support families in hospital, home, and hospice settings, offering grounded guidance through life’s most powerful thresholds. In each setting, my role remains the same: steady presence, clear support, and care rooted in dignity.
