Frequently Asked Questions
Simple answers to common questions about working with a doula.
What does a doula do? +
A doula provides non-medical emotional, practical, and informational support during significant life transitions. My role is to guide, not replace clinical care. That may look like listening and helping clarify wishes, coordinating support, planning vigils or rituals, or simply sitting quietly when words aren't needed.
Do you replace my doctor, midwife, or hospice team? +
No. I work alongside medical providers while focusing on emotional support, advocacy, and continuity of care. A doula doesn't replace family, hospice, or faith communities — we work alongside them so everyone can do their part with ease and peace.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ families? +
Yes. I offer affirming care for queer, trans, and gender-diverse individuals and families. You will not need to explain your existence in this space.
When should I reach out? +
As early as possible for birth and postpartum. For end-of-life support, you can reach out at diagnosis, during hospice care, or when preparing for vigils. There is no wrong time to start the conversation.
What happens during a consultation? +
We talk. You share your needs and I will explain how I work. There is no pressure or obligation — it is simply an opportunity to see if we are a good fit for each other.
Do you offer payment plans? +
Every family deserves care and support regardless of circumstance. Payment plans and adjusted rates are always available. If you are drawn to this work but are unsure about affordability, please reach out — I am happy to talk through what is possible.
